Who I am in a nutshell: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." **Ralph Waldo Emerson**

Get the priorities straight
I posted once long ago on how gassy cows and moose contributed to global warming...blah, blah, blah....So today I'm skimming the headlines at Drudge and found this one, "Proposed fee on smelly cows, hogs angers farmers". After reading the article, it angers me a great deal.
Imposing such a thing on farmers would pretty much dry up many accounts for these hard working people who work harder than the idiots who want to make this happen! The EPA...I'm really growing to hate them as much as PETA!!!!! Sorry, I love the animals, I love the earth but there comes a time in this life where more critical things should be taken care of. After all, the earth isn't going to burn up over night! But people will die from frost bite because they have no job to pay for a home and food and are out on the street in this horribly cold weather that we have here right now!
But there's one thing that's being ignored here....it's the COWS that are causing the problems, these ranchers should be rewarded for taking their lives because in the end, the ranchers are the ones who are helping the environment by eliminating the problem!
How bout elephants? They're a large creature? I would bet they emit a lot of gasses too. Man, this could end up depleting one hell of an animal population in this country! What will they do with all the cows when all the cattle ranchers are bankrupt???? Perhaps letting the cows run free and having to herd them just when it's time for processing will ease the burden on the farmers, at least no one can say they own the animals anymore.
This country is already in an economic crisis with thousands of people out of jobs, companies going belly up and now this??? There are much more pressing needs that need some attention in this country than global friggin' warming! I'm really sorry but people are hungry, people are homeless, people are jobless...can you say morons?

Freedom
What is wrong with people in this country???? Thanksgiving is about being thankful. Should it not be an ongoing education for kids about how this day came to be? About why we celebrate? Its not religious, its not about racial stereotypes...that just makes my blood boil every time I see that statement in this article!
If you don't want your kids to celebrate or dress up in costume for a long standing tradition in school then keep them home and teach them how to be selfish! Teach them to be ungrateful, teach them how it's racist to reenact a day in history! Or better yet, simply write a note to the school asking them to please remove your child from the festivities. People do that where I work and our school kindly obliges.
I've seen more racist, sexual, horribly violent things done by actors on the big screen, and I will point out that parents ALLOW their kids to watch these things or even to play video games that portray terrorists killing our own soldiers! THIS is ok! But dressing the kids in little pilgrim hats and Indian costumes is DEMEANING AND RACIST????? What the hell kind of logic is this??!
And this school backs down to this tradition that's been going on for decades???? For pete's sake, where are the spines? Where are the beliefs and the knowledge that history is important for many reasons in this country, a reminder of how it got to this point? Freedoms that so many take for granted and take advantage of, such as this.
I suggest that maybe if parents are going to be so outrageously petty about this or that that they should maybe consider looking into all of this BEFORE they decide to live in a city or a town. Or maybe they should just ... oh forget it!
I just cannot tell you how very irritated I am about this. What's most irritating is that every once in awhile, I sit and ponder all the restrictions that have popped up over the last 5-10 years and I come to the realization that if some day, people don't start fighting and defending things that are important, it will be too late to regain any sort of voice over those who so badly want to drown out what is most important in this country........

I'm just a little curious about this one....
I remember thinking how silly it was for a recount in Florida for the whole Bush/Gore battle back in '04. It really was pointless and I found it to be a last ditch effort of desperation.
So, here I sit reading about something similar occurring in our own state between Franken and Coleman. My thoughts? Well, interested and somewhat curious to see if in fact a recount will result in something different considering the circumstances. Check out these links. One of my readers asked about this run and I really haven't been paying too much attention but this caught my attention today.
Coleman voices concern over changing vote count in tight Senate race
100 more votes for Franken in Mt. Iron Pct. 1
What's most interesting is the wrong date on a machine that 'hey, maybe the battery is bad, or maybe it's due to the time change'....votes pulled off the machine 2 days before ELECTION DAY? Oh, not to mention that EXACTLY 100 votes were due to incorrect reporting and they just happened to be all for Franken? Hmmmmm, read the articles and make your own judgment. Either way, I'm of the mind that it's out of my hands now so whatever happens will be. Just some light reading for those interested.

I can only hope that the choice is going to prove good
So the election is FINALLY over. Obama...hmmm, well, lets just say I'm not all that thrilled with it. However, I'm willing to play the wait and see game. He's the elected one, it's done, it's over. No amount of griping, whining or finding petty reasons to impeach him will make the reality go away. To those Republicans and Conservatives out there who are whining, all I have to say to you is stop acting like the libs and the dems and find ways in which to make this presidency work! Stand up for this country instead of against it!
Hearing some of the things I've heard from the news and various others about his idea to change the Constitution, or to roll our 401K's into social security and other things, well, lets just say the ears and eyes are wide open. Sadly, if a person dares to say anything mean or nasty about him as president you can bet they'll be called racist immediately. It's happening already.
I find it funny that already people are complaining..not Republicans but those who worked for the Obama campaign. They were offered money to work for his campaign and today there was a news story that they aren't getting the money they were promised. Some have even received less than they earned. Wow, now hopefully that fiasco will be rectified but honestly, what a way to start. In the same breath though, did you know that this campaign was thee most expensive in ages costing like $5.3 BILLION dollars???? Isn't this country in economic crisis????? I guess if it were up to me I would have given that money to a better cause than nasty campaign ads and a bunch of signs that will ultimatley be trashed. Perhaps putting that money into things that will help this country out would have been a better plan and proven to all of us Americans that these candidates cared about the future of this country...but who am I, just some hard working peon.
Personally, I don't look at the color of a person...Don't get me wrong, it's a great day in history that I will have witnessed to see the first black president...or should I say, African American. /PC Its about what he will be able to achieve that I am most interested in. I have children who live in a free country...each year I see freedom being ripped away. I want my kids and grandkids to experience life like I did. I do hope that America can be America.
It's over, it's done and for those who think I might just have a crying, whining fit....sorry, ain't gonna happen. This win was expected and frankly, congratulations Obama and all his supporters. It is what it is...sulking and being nasty and vindictive is simply not an option.....He's got a full platter and it will be interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing how certain things will be handled by both him and the people of this country.
Good luck...better you than me!

Double Standard doesn't even touch this
This country and the people in it have done pissed me off but good. What is wrong with people???
First, what is so damn humorous about hanging an effigy of ANY single person in this country? How is that considered Halloween 'art'. When did it start to occur that supposed adults became a bunch of idiotic bullies who act worse than the kindergarten and first grade kids I deal with every day. I find this sort of behavior to be completely over the top, childish, and appalling....just for the record.
The things I've seen about Sarah Palin have really irked me and that people actually find humor in it is even worse but I've remained pretty silent. My feelings on it are that she's a candidate...albeit, not the PRESIDENTIAL candidate, but she is free game. So is Obama, Biden, and McCain. And I will go as far as to say that Palin IS A WOMAN.
Two guys are arrested in KY for hanging and effigy of Obama. A hanging Obama is no damn worse than hanging an effigy of Palin with McCain buried in flames sticking out of a chimney, but those guys weren't arrested. It's 'free speech', it's art, it's a Halloween prank....Hey, Palin IS a woman; that's discrimination, that's misogynistic, I cry foul because I AM A WOMAN therefore hanging a mannequin of another woman off the eaves of a house to me is like hanging me out there or my girl friends, or my daughters.
The race card is getting a LOT out of hand in this country. If those who support Obama continue on this...racism crusade because Obama is of a different color skin than myself, well hey, I might just have to hop on board for the woman's cause and begin my own friggin' crusade.
Anyone care to join me?

Just my own humble opinion on this
I've been keeping my lips sealed with all the going's on with the RNC in St. Paul this week, and especially the Sarah Palin smearing that has been all over the news. I guess you could say that while I shouldn't be all that shocked at the behavior of the far left leaning groups of haters out there, I am beside myself with both shock and awe.
Over the weekend I just sat here with ENDLESS tabs opened on our computer reading article after article about Sarah Palin actually being the grandmother of Trig and covering for her daughter. Vicious assholes out there who would bring the children of a politician into their nasty and vile rhetoric.
Don't think for a second I wasn't just fuming over all of the things that have been going on in this effed up world. Who would want democrats in office with their lunacy and their outrageous accusations???????? Reading in previous articles about arrests made in St. Paul of people who were armed with guns and bows and arrows and just today about a bus full of cub scouts that was stopped by protesters and shaken by them....Doesn't anyone see the craziness going on around them? Doesn't anyone stop and say......omg, what are we doing?????
For the feminists to be attacking Sarah Palin because she's not staying at home barefoot and pregnant....what a double standard that statement is. Feminist/admonishing her for not staying home to be with her family....DO THE MATH. Here's some advice for those who can't seem to see how dumb they really sound---Figure out your own hypocrisies with this, feminist pushers, who only want to push that ticket if the woman is Hilary.
I can only say that because of all the lunatic madness that's been surrounding the last few days it has more than made my voting decision for me. I would never associate myself with the evilness that is the left leaning crazies.

Apparently one only matters if they obstruct justice and lie to a grand jury
Of course politics are smeared all over the place these days. I've only skimmed things here and there and heard this or that or seen headlines in this place or that. The John Edwards thing of course caught my attention....how could a man do that to his wife who is dying of the cancer????? That is the million dollar question right?
Well, I found this article and it really is sad how the Democrats "stand by their own" in a time of need. While I don't know much about this family, I don't condone affairs, lies or any of that crap and Edwards is really a piece of work.....for the Dems to attack Elizabeth Edwards in such a way is so.....astounding! This woman is sick, is trying to protect her kids, is trying to grasp the reality of the public humiliation that a man she trusted, created, and so damn much more! I do pity her and wonder just how much emotion these dems have for the human race....they are vile I tell you!
I guess just being his wife, you might as well throw her to the wolves too since she's married to the cuss! What pieces of poop these people are!!!!!!

Hey, If New York Wants them, let 'em have them
Apparently New York is trying to start a new trend? Let them have the illegals. If it means that much to them to make the illegals feel more welcome, then all the power to those wonderfully loving New Yorkers. BOO YAH!
You go NY...Oh, wait, it's the Governor. Perhaps he has plenty of room in the Governors mansion to house them too. If he thinks that New York is his alone then he best start making some room.
47% of democrats, his own party, oppose this move yet this Spitz character is completely ignoring their position and taking his own.
If this is what the dems are planning to do with our country, then it's a very scary day. Although most of us knew that the day the votes came in eh?
Of course this guy is blaming the "Rabid Right":
I didn't realize that trying to protect our country was such a 'wrong' thing to do???? Apparently 9/11 means nothing to anyone anymore, although, with all the hatred and accusations that have been thrown around, has 9/11 affected any of those on the left?
The subject of Illegal Immigration has been a long standing issue and a problem in this country. I couldn't go to Europe and live there without a work visa, or being completely scrutinized at the airport. If we didn't pick up our baggage within 10 minutes of arrival, they would've taken it and confiscated it for their own safety. Security at Charles DeGalle was insane! But I respected that. I couldn't just walk into the DMV and obtain a drivers license or legal citizenship just because they believed I would improve their economy or simply because I needed one.
If I travel all over the country, illegally, then the repercussions should be serious! Not a slap on the wrist and a drivers license. What should cue this guy off, LOGICALLY is the word Illegal.
When exactly did the word illegal become such a dirty word in this country? It isn't a dirty word to me, it's just simply about what's right and what's wrong. We might as well just scrap that word and have a free-for-all country. One of mayhem and chaos with no rules. Kinda like Lord of the Flies. Hm.
I used to think that this was a great country but it seems that each day there's more being regulated, more being taken away from our own citizens, less respect and less forethought into the future of the decisions that are being made now. Perhaps it's just my negative mood right now but what I see coming in our future and that of our kids is pretty bleak.
I'm just in a snit tonight. Things like those that I've been reading for the last hour really make my blood boil. Forgive my negativity, it will pass I'm sure.

Is it possible, the surge might be making a small difference?
Funny when things seem to be going well in Iraq, there really isn't much news about it. Like that comment from construction workers being buried in that article about the bridge getting more wobbly, I found this buried at the bottom of the 'opinion' section of the paper.
Pat and I were JUST discussing the war, the surge, and progress, etc...the other day while on his way to work. (we're down to one vehicle and I needed it for errands so I got to ride with him, what a nice drive it was too). Anyway, we were talking about how the dems are mum with this war now, how casualties were down last month, that maybe there is a light shining....but it's still early and honestly, it's just really nice to hear something positive...whether or not it comes from the news is a whole other story.
Clifford D. May: Some don't want to hear good news about Iraq
This guy, Clifford D. May has a great sense of humor...at least one that I enjoy and delivered a well written article about some of the news that we don't often hear about and the reaction of a Democrat in Kansas...too funny. Read it and enjoy.

Power is Sexy **cough**
Can this be for real? An article about how great dating is for the Dems since they took over? How sexy they are? How much better they dress? And how they get better tables at resaraunts? This rise of power is perplexing. The power of beauty. Shallow, selfish, people.
I guess that working on the actual problems that face this country its time we all hold the mentality that we should make love...not war. What a disgraceful bunch these people are.
Dems are bringing sexy back

Fighting the good fight
Although I'm not an Edwards fan, my thoughts and prayers are with his wife and her struggle with cancer as well as with John Edwards. I have wondered since 2004 how she was doing with her diagnosis and now know.
It's sad, plain and simple....
Wife’s illness won’t idle Edwards’ ’08 campaign

Waaaaaaah...Mama Pelosi, where are you?!!!!!
Actual tears were shed by those who thought that the dems could change the world and the course of this war. Of course they were stopped from vandalizing Pelosi's office during a protest...funny, vandalizing recruitment offices and the offices of those who support the war is ok. Hmm, who's the donkey in this scenario?
Anti-war protesters arrested at Pelosi’s office
By Chris Good
March 22, 2007
Four members of the anti-war group Code Pink were arrested outside the office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) Thursday afternoon, following an announcement that they would seek to take over the office.
The group’s members had planned to hold a symbolic “Pin the war on the Donkey” demonstration at Pelosi’s office to show their frustration with the Democratic leadership’s inaction on ending the war in Iraq.
However, Capitol Police prevented the taping of a drawn donkey to the wall.
Code Pink members were crying outside Pelosi’s office. When asked why, Rae Abileah, 24, said she was crying out of “outrage that this is all we can get from the Democrats,” referring to the Iraq supplemental funding bill, scheduled for a vote Friday.
“We’re just heartbroken that Nancy Pelosi has decided to keep funding George Bush’s war, and now the war belongs to the Democrats as well as the Republicans,” said Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin. “We thought we were going to get a change when they came into power.”

People need to realize what these fights are doing to this country
Ok, I've kept my peace under wraps long enough.
The whole smoking ban thing has been a pretty hot topic around our state for awhile now. And I do understand the concerns that many people have regarding second hand smoke. In fact, we are in the process of trying to quit, but I can tell you this, I will never be an advocate for any sort of smoking ban for as long as I live.
Not because I'm a smoker but because I'm an American...one who lives in a free country. Freedom of choice, freedom of speech, freedom to live.
For the government to come into to a person's place of business, that that person pays for, where that person pays taxes, and dictate what that person can and cannot choose to do with that business is blatanly wrong and invasive.
I know how many feel about the effects of secondhand smoke but does that mean that it's ok for that activist group to demand that smokers cannot be allowed to smoke anywhere? It's already to the point of a very harsh warning if you simply drive, IN YOUR OWN CAR, on school grounds with a cigarette. Smoking outside is near criminal. Can't smoke in public parks, ball fields...not even on a windy day. Why? I'm not sure, just because people don't like it. I'd be more than willing to walk over to the parking lot to smoke but even there it's not allowed...even if there are no people around. I throw my butts in a trash can or an empty pop can in my vehicle...if littering is the problem, I don't see signs asking smokers not to litter, just not to smoke.
The rights of those of us who CHOOSE to smoke are most definately in debate. Why should the rights of those non-smokers be appeased but not the smokers? Are we not just as American as all of those non-smokers are? It's like those who anger me so much about the rights to abortion. Or the war. Or global warming.
Personally, when I quit smoking, if I don't want to be around smoke, I CAN CHOOSE TO NOT GO THERE! If a business chooses to ban smoking from THEIR establishment, that is THEIR right. It's not mine tell them that they can't do it nor is it the right of the non-smokers or the government. This is not about whining for MY rights to smoke but about protecting our American rights as human beings living in a free country. If one right is taken from private business', homes, automobiles, how soon before even more are brought to the table for discussion.
Banning people to not smoke in their own homes...umm, that is really crossing the line. And honestly in my opinion? It's bullshit!
What caused me to write about this? This article about gun ownership in a neighborhood in Nashville.
These residents are being TOLD that guns are not allowed in THEIR HOMES.
I am not really a big fan of guns. However, I don't begrudge others if they own them, want them, or need them to protect themselves. And no one really should.
Each person on this planet is an individual with different beliefs. If my neighbor wants a gun and they do so LEGALLY I have absolutely NO problem with that! Why in the hell would I, it's their life, it's their home, it's their preference and it's not for me to judge or to scream 'foul' whenever I don't like what a person does in their own damn home! (EXCEPT when it involves hurting children or insane things)
However, if the owners of these guns have children and the children end up with the gun, then I do cry 'foul' and the anger seeps out of me. I am not saying that I don't judge people in the privacy of their homes, I think everyone does to a point, but I am saying that lines are definately being crossed these days as to what people can and cannot do with the things they pay for with their own hard-earned money including the government taxes
Hate guns, smoking, trans fat or whatever all you want but look at what is happening around you before you start advocating gun bans and smoking bans upon homes, autos, business'. It's the future of our children that is being stolen...Look at the BIG picture of the future

Polar Bear theives exposed
Remember the photo of the polar bears "stranded" on the ice berg?
Thanks to my hubby, it's been revealed that this photo was NOT taken by environmentalists but used for their own devious plot to make the world believe that these bears were in fact stranded and in mortal danger. Not only did they falsely scare us into believing such things as these bears were stranded as stated in this paragraph:
‘They cling precariously to the top of what is left of the ice floe, their fragile grip the perfect symbol of the tragedy of global warming. Captured on film by Canadian environmentalists, the pair of polar bears look stranded on chunks of broken ice….’
It also appears that they used the photo without the permission of the ACTUAL photographer named Amanda Byrd:
'The student who took the photograph, however, gives a slightly different account: ‘They were on the ice when we found them and on the ice when we left. They were healthy, fat and seemed comfortable on their iceberg.’
'Amanda Byrd, an Australian graduate student at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), says she took the picture around three years ago - in the summer. The photograph was not ‘taken by environmentalists’ but as part of a field trip with the university.'
It really is amazing the lengths that the media, the activists, and the loons will go to get the majority to believe in what their cause is. Criminal at times too.
I would like to thank Amanda Byrd for a great photo and give her the credit that she deserves for taking a photo that was used under false pretenses.

Those who disagree might as well dig their graves
It's really very interesting how people who disagree with certain things are suddenly threatened, called names or banned from various things.
Such as the scientists' who 'questioned mankind's impact on climate change'. Lives being threatened, funding being stopped for research, being called "industry stooges".
Now, I have been very clear that I don't often post on global warming but I did find this article to be of some interest.
Scientists threatened for 'climate denial'
Why exactly is it that if one person disagrees with another and their opinion that they are suddenly threatened or called names? I just read an article about bullying in the workplace--since there's guidelines that must be followed in school for bullying they figure that bullying in the workplace should also have some guidelines.
It's pretty damn pathetic that adults...or people who are above school age actually NEED guidelines on how to treat another human being as well as respect that we ALL have different opinions on everything in life! Apparently once a bully, always a bully.

Doomsday revisited
I remember when I was pretty young laying on the floor in the living room with my brother watching tv. He looked at me and said, "Did you know that tonight the world's going to end?" Being somewhere around 6-9 at the time, I got scared. I asked him what he meant and he said that it's D-Day. Of course I asked him what D-Day was and he said "doomsday". I have never forgotten the next day where I threw it in his face that the world didn't end. But the most perplexing thing was how very serious he was about that, how much he believed that.
Ironically, I was on the phone today with my mom and she brought this up. This very moment in life. I was thinking about it earlier today because this article brought it to mind. But she said that he was so convinced that the world was going to end that night that he stayed home from going to a movie or something because he just wanted to go to bed. He was that convinced.
Hmmmm. Who would've convinced him of that? The media? The schools? Television? Either way, this article has some similarities that strike a deja vu with me.
Global warming concerns are keeping children awake at night
Why do you think kids are worried? Could it be that the hype surrounding such issues is scaring the crap out of the kids?

Is spanking a crime?
I do think that this is no place for the state government to rear their ugly policies, bills, or whatever.
No-spank bill on way
For the state to actually try to pass a bill restricting this? I do think that is going a bit far. I think a big problem in society today is that kids are victims to parents who lack the ability to stand up to them in any way shape or form. It's always easier to stand down when you have a child screaming, kicking and crying and give in just to shut them up so that you don't suffer the glares of society. If you dare to raise a hand to them in public, the phones come out and there is hell to pay for daring to discipline your child.
These kids grow up, they become accustomed to that 'backing down' mentality that mom and dad are so prone to cave into and demand more, want more, and if they don't get it, well, the kids rebel until mom and dad give in. Hence the society that we now live in.
CBS 5 Poll: Majority Oppose Calif. Spanking Ban
I'm not advocating spanking in any way here. But I am advocating that we keep the state and government out of the privacy of people's lives and homes. Social workers already have full platters and in many aspects they lack in the ability to make solid decisions on what is and is not considered abuse. And the ways in which cases are handled at times can turn fatal to a child. And in other instances, such as the one Pat and I had to face, their judgement of a situation is way off and it hurts a family for years to come. Why add more???

It's worth it for the smiles on their faces
I don't touch much on the extreme political-natured goings on but the death of Saddam Hussein is worth a mention at this humble blog.
I must congratulate the Iraqis for their freedom from a man who has cast many shadows over their lives. To live in fear would be just a mild way to put what life must have been like for those under SH.
What many Americans, lefties mainly, seem to be blind to is that they do not have to experience a life like that. That they are allowed to bash the President of the U.S. without repercussions of any kind. They can do the simple thing of losing a soccer game without the players being tortured, they don't have to watch their families being raped by the President for reasons that don't even warrant a slap on the wrist. They can call him all the names they want PUBLICLY and accuse him of all sorts of things PUBLICLY and walk away with those of us on the right aghast at that blatant disrespect.
For Iraqis, death by torture would be their punishment for something as simple as walking funny! Imagine living in fear everyday, that your daughters could be raped just because of a power trip, that your husbands could be killed for no good reason by torture, that your wives could be raped and tortured and actually have to live afterwards to remember...who in their right mind can sit on American soil and live with themselves by defending the life of a man such as Saddam Hussein????
At last, justice is done, says joyous community:
Iraqi's rejoicing over the news of the hanging. At least they feel some sense of relief and for them, I am really happy.

More reporting Saddam..of course these are more from the right.
