New Years is just about here and I'm a little early

The new year is just around the corner and I really can't wait. I know, I know, it's just another day on the calendar, another day older, another year past and life goes on. But who out there has had such a bad go of it that the hopes that a new year would bring with it a clean slate might now bring some shimmer of hope?

New Year's resolutions...never really made one except to say that "I might try....". I always figured that there really was no point if in 3 months time that promise I made to myself or to others was going to be forgotten, blown off, or never even attempted. I'm a firm believer in 'never make promises that can't be kept' because those promises that weren't kept could hurt another. We were gonna quit smoking last year but that never happened. Excuses were aplenty and well, we were doing good for the first 3 months but things just started to plummet. As I said, excuses....

The kids, Pat and I are going to do the usual this year...sit at home together, pig out on pizza, chips and the yearly supply of sausage cheese and crackers. Probably play Scene It and watch the ball drop on the ole tv. Just as we've done every year. Traditions die hard I tell ya...whatever will we do when our kids are moved out.

Nothing like bringing in the New Year with our kids. Pat mentioned him and I spending the night at the Casino Hotel; he won a grand prize at an event through work late this year, which included a night in a jacuzzi suite, some gambling money and a dinner for two at a steakhouse but I just couldn't bring in the New Year without my kids.

I went and bought hats, noise makers and poppers for the evening. The kids want that 'wine' stuff too so I might just have to go buy some of that tomorrow just for them.

I think in the end, it's a bigger event for all of us this year. It's been a rough one, our daughter going to boot camp, my brother gone, moocho stress these last few months. I think we are all secretly hoping to turn the last page in the chapter of this book called 2007 and start anew.

If I don't get a chance to post tomorrow or the next day, this will be my New Years post to all.

I do hope that all of you have a safe and very happy New Year....until next year.

To all the soldiers and your families out there: You will all be in our thoughts and our prayers and may you all find some sort of happiness and ways in which to enjoy the coming of 2008. A very special New Year's wish from our home to all of you and Thank You all for another year of sacrifice and service to this country!
