Yesterday Pat called me and asked me a question. It was actually quite bizarre really. I was driving home and I called our answering machine to see if there were any messages for job interviews and such. (I have only put out about 12 applications in the last 3 weeks.) Of course, as has been the case all week, there were none. I threw my cell phone in the seat and cussed and swore to myself and in the end said, "Just give me something!" Yes, I am admitting that I was talking to myself! Something I learned at a very early age.
I am at the point of frustration right now because I'm getting the impression that employers are looking at my app. and saying, "oh, she only did daycare, she has no experience with anything". But this is only my assumption... How very wrong they are....
So, I walk in the house and not ten minutes later Pat calls. "I was just wondering if you would be interested in making a little money." Sounds like a sales pitch huh. I asked how and he said, "well, the manager of the company is looking for someone to update their community guides." You know those things you get from the Chamber of Commerce when you want to know more about their area? Dingdingding....While he was filling me in on things, I was thinking back to almost a year ago. This same exact question was asked of me. Only I had to refuse because I didn't have the time in a day to go out and do all that needs to be done for these.
Well, I am somewhat employed right now. There are 4 of these community guides that need to be done. One just happens to be our little town and the surrounding towns in the county. I am insanely excited about this. I have to write up to 5 feature articles and do a pretty serious re-vamp on this particular brochure of our community. I get to take pictures of various things and can only hope they will be published in this guide. I told the boss that if in fact I feel that I can handle the load that I would be more than happy to take on more guides. But for now, I'm not going to go full bore and say I'll do all 4...that would really put too much pressure on me.
I did write for a newspaper a few years back. I did sports, wrote up to 5-7 articles every week on stats, jump shots, extra points, pole vaulting, etc. and City Council meetings. Once I got the hang of it, boy did I feel smart! LOL. My articles were being published as were my pictures. Talk about feeling like I was doing something worth while. I did enjoy that even though I am not much of a sports nut. I'm sure my writing left much to be desired actually.
Anyway, Pat is bringing me home a digital camera tonight...I hate digital just for the record... and I figure I will go out to various places this evening and during the day tomorrow and start taking some pictures of things of interest. The pictures aren't as necessary as the writing but I can at least submit some with the hopes of maybe one getting published.
And hey, if any of you out there feel the urge to travel to the midwest, check us out! Well, ok, that's a bit premature but I have to be optimistic that I can do this don't I?
