Ok, I know when I rant that most of my readers try to ignore so I will give you ample warning, this is a serious rant and complaining session by me about something that is so ridiculous that I couldn't pass it up....Sorry but my mood is a bit unforgiving tonight and this post is just what I needed to release some crankiness. Forgive me.
I was just about to shut down the computer but went to Drudge before doing so.....Just as I was about to close the window, I saw this:
Daughter Who Surprised Mom With Birthday Visit Sues Parents
"MADISON, Wis. -- An Illinois woman is suing her Wisconsin parents for maintaining an icy driveway that she blamed for a fall that broke her ankle two winters ago."
MAINTAINING????? Why would any sane Midwesterner 'MAINTAIN' an icy driveway? With ice 2-4 inches thick it's a little difficult to chip away at this blanket of ice unless of course you have hours and one damn sharp ice chipper and LOTS of salt! And I couldn't possibly forget, arms that just won't quit because cleaning an entire driveway of the sheets of ice the occur all over our area would most certainly cause some sort of attack.
Oh, I get it, maybe mom and dad plotted against the daughter knowing full well that she would be clutzy enough to fall to her 'near death'!
Doesn't Illinois get ice and snow too? Could it have been around the time that pretty much EVERYWHERE a person walked in the upper midwest there were icy sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and/or roads? Hmmm, lets find out.
"Carriel Louah, 25, visited Darlington, Wis., to surprise her mother on her birthday in January 2005. But the next morning, she was injured when she slipped and fell on her parents' driveway. She filed suit against her parents earlier this year."
Wow, January huh, I do declare that this is a pretty common winter month here in Minnesota, only 2 miles away from Wisconsin. Perhaps this daughter forgot how to walk on ice or she just didn't like her parents too much? I guess they had a 'falling' out.
I wonder if it ever even occurred to this daughter that maybe it would be a nice gesture on her part to try and do something about this very common problem?
"The daughter said that a letter from her mom apologizing months after the fall proves that her parents knew they had a defective gutter for years and did nothing about it."
A letter of apology proves a defective gutter??? Wow, the names they come up with for gutters these days! Sorry = gutter. I'll have to put that one in my "It's Not My Fault Dictionary" for future reference.
"She's seeking more than $75,000 in damages for medical bills and lost wages."
Holy mackeral, that must have been some broken ankle! That's an awful lot of money to sue your own parent's for! Most are attempting to plan/build up their retirement funds or to figure out how to pay for their medical bills when their kids are this old or maybe even planning a trip for mom's birthday or just to get away. Or even more horrible, helping their children to pay for their college educations or their first house?
Oh, maybe her parents are loaded with money! There has just got to be something that isn't being said about this whole incident! Maybe mom or dad pushed her? /sarcasm/
"U.S. District Judge John Shabaz said that a jury should decide the matter."
And a jury will decide this one. Man, if that isn't just the straw that broke the 'mommy and daddy's' back. Our hard earned money goes to pay jurors to reach a verdict on such a really, petty case!
Unbelievable what families have become these days. Why not sue the meteorologists or the weather balloon things, or the sky or God, or the clouds or the temperature. I know, why not sue the scientists or those psychics that couldn't predict this 'horrible tragedy'. IT'S A BROKEN ANKLE, not a crippling thing like a broken neck or a severed spine! Get over it and grow up already! Or maybe it's just easier to blame others for your own clumsiness and inability to use caution when walking on ice in the middle of winter.
My last line to this will be: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!! (this is not a reference to my own mom btw) Just a smart a** retort to what a slap in the face this 'daughter' is giving to her parents!
