What constitutes a role model in this society anymore

Miss New Jersey resigns over pregnancy

I don't know about others out there but when I was a little girl, one of my dreams was that I could be in a Miss U.S.A. pageant. I would be glued to the tv with my mom when these shows would come on and her and I would sit and make predictions about who we thought would win. Usually our guesses would be way off but it was still fun.

I also remember being disappointed often because Miss Minnesota was usually less than the others, her hair wasn't as shiny or her body wasn't as perfect, or her answers would be really dumb.

And frankly, as a little girl, these women were role models.

Kind of a shallow thought now that I think about it. Perfection on the outside...hmmm, funny how as a kid I perceived these, the impact they had on my own outlook on what I looked like. Cartoons though--Tom and Jerry? Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd? Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner? Loved them but never got ideas like I did when I watched real people on television..I understood animation when I was 8 or 9. It's that simple really.

Now, I wouldn't let my kids watch the pageants if my life depended on it!

Underage drinking, pregnancy, racy photos on the internet, super-anorexic underfed poster girls. All these things and who knows what else are already splayed all over the television, teen magazines, magazines at the checkout counters, the internet, in schools, the list could be endless.

The direction that society is swaying is really outrageous and tasteless. And it's ironic that I came across another article from a woman discussing casual sex and the life she missed out on. Makes me wonder at times when I come across articles similar to this just how many women out there have regrets. Here's that one and it's very interesting.

Casual sex is a con: women just aren't like men

What feminism has done to society is borderline criminal when it comes to the teachings of self respect, morals, and values as a respectful woman. Seeking respect in the form of equality are two totally different things for men and women. There is just no comparison IMHO. And if one wants to get even more technical, the liberal act of 'sexual freedom' is a whole other story.
