Here I am again...it's like deja vu this time of year! With the weather being so mild caution needs to be practiced when riding snowmobiles on lakes. I just don't get it. I complained about the stupidity of Midwesterners last year and I'll do it again this year and the next and the next and so on.
The weather has been a little strange this winter. We finally got a little more snow a couple days ago and the temps have dropped considerably. Below zero windchill...it feels more like winter. However, the lakes are not all completely frozen over. Common sense dictates that people living here would just know that but apparently not?
It's really sad to read about these senseless deaths. The 18-year old who took off never to return is disturbing...he hit a patch of open water and rescuers found his snowmobile at the bottom of the lake about 20 feet from the edge of the other side of some ice.
Early on there was a story out of Wisconsin of a guy who took a 9-year old snowmobiling on a lake...this was a couple months ago....and the little kid drown. He had hit a patch of open water. I was shocked to see this incident so soon. I just don't get it.
3 die in snowmobile accidents
1 apparently plunged into Lake Minnetonka
Who I am in a nutshell: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." **Ralph Waldo Emerson**
