A learning lesson for this parent

If a person is going to bring their child on an escalator, is it not wise to educate the child on the do's and the don'ts of 'escalator etiquette'? Not that Macy's can't afford to pay out the nose for this incident of a 2-year old getting their finger lopped, they really shouldn't be held responsible.

Toddler's Thumb Gets Stuck In Macy's Escalator

I remember way back when it was a passing fancy to handcuff parents to their kids when the kid did something wrong, or the parent had to serve time for their kids screwing up. Or maybe I was dreaming or something. But either way, when are parents held accountable in these types of situations?

Maybe if the parents were keeping a closer eye on their kids they wouldn't grow curious about those little grooves in the moving steps!

But for God's sake, if you are going to have a child, wise up!!!! Teach them things. Sometimes I think that kids are only brought into this world as objects of another person's riches or dirty schemes against a spouse. "Oh, he molested 'my' kids, put him in jail." (funny how in the act of divorce or a massive fight, the kids suddenly become property) or "He verbally and mentally corrupted and scarred them for life by .... sending them to their room without dinner"! Oh, man, that is just horrible!

If this turns out to be nothing hooray but if Macy's gets sued for something that has been around since I was little...umm, then the new breed of parenting needs some serious help.
