"Two civil rights groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday challenging a new law in a Dallas suburb that outlaws renting apartments to illegal immigrants, alleging the ordinance violates federal law and forces landlords to act as immigration officers."Why shouldn't the responsiblity and the arm of the law fall on the shoulders of those hard working American citizens who own a business, manage a business and/or properties, hire employees? Why should they have to suffer the consequences for harboring illegals unless of course they condone this?
"Immigration enforcement must be left to the federal government, not each local municipality," said Lisa Graybill, legal director of the ACLU of Texas. "Otherwise Texas will end up with a patchwork system that is impractical and unenforceable."Why, so they can remain hidden as long as possible? Umm, wasn't it made abundantly clear that the Feds don't know squat after the raids a couple weeks ago?
"The new law calls for property managers or owners to verify the immigration or citizenship status of apartment renters. The City Council also approved resolutions making English the city's official language and allowing authorities to become part of a federal program so they can enforce immigration laws."And why shouldn't legal citizens in this country be expected to do this? This is my country, your country, their country, everyones country as long as the laws are followed. To protect their own buisness and/or ability to live? Oh, that's right, because we should just let anyone come here and violate our laws. They just want to live and work right.
Hmm...ok, go ACLU!!! Rah rah!!! /sarcasm/
