U.S. Deaths in Iraq Exceed 9-11 Count
People should really stop referring to the deaths of American soldiers as just a number. When I see things like this in the news I imagine someone standing by with one of those counter clicker thingamabobs awaiting the next opportunity to click. And I say 'opportunity' on purpose.
Really, it bothers me a great deal. They are humans, they have families, and they are all loved by many.
People should also stop being aghast that the number is over that of the death toll on 9/11. This war began in 2001, nearly 6 years ago. 9/11 took only hours. And again, it was not a number that was lost, it was husbands, wives, family, friends. Human beings.
War is not pretty, war is not a happy thing and the death of any soldier, not just American, matters. And war means death to many!
The deaths of all the civillians both American and Iraqi or the many killed by unwarranted attacks, caused by the nastiness that are the insurgents, the REAL terrorists is far higher. But each and every one of those civillian deaths matters as well. And they are not considered numbers, they are people whose families must see this displayed across the media!
Face it, a soldier could come back safely to this country after two tours of duty and die crossing the street tomorrow. Will his death matter to the media then? Probably not, at least he/she wouldn't be 'counted' then. More deaths occur in this damn country on a weekly basis than the 'tally' mark of these soldiers. Why not post those 'stats'!
Stop keeping tally for petes sake or at least stop making it fricken news!
