Why such a fuss?

I found this article at the NY Post to be of interest:

FUROR OVER PSYCH TESTS FOR TEACHERS

(here is just a little blip from the article)

"Since the 2003-04 school year, superintendents have ordered 510 evaluations of employees, with most of the tests to determine whether workers are mentally healthy, according to figures provided by the city Department of Education.

Of those, 297 found the subject fit, while 132, or roughly one in four, determined the subject was unfit.

Another 82 educators either resigned or retired before their results were logged.

The Education Department estimated that roughly 80 percent of those required to take exams are teachers.

While the law empowering superintendents to require school employees to take a mental exam has been on the books for decades, teacher-union leaders have taken steps this year to warn their members about the tests."

I can't really say that I disagree with this sort of testing. Looking at the headlines, listening to my own children, and watching the news I would have to say that this is a really good idea. Why though would teachers have a problem with this? My door has to remain open at all times for the government to come in whenever they please in order to do the job that I do. Granted, I am a private entity but all the same I too earn tax payer money in a round about way that comes from working with kids.

I have to report any sort of medications that I might be on, mental illness that anyone in my household may have, hell, I have to open whichever closet or cupboard door that is requested open by the county worker who comes into my home whenever they feel just so they can look and see that I'm adhering to all the rules of a home daycare made by the State. If they asked me to take a psych test because they felt I wasn't competent enough, or because they just felt like giving it that day, who am I to say that they don't have a right? I am caring for other people's children. I am the responsible adult that is making an impact on these children's lives. A very grueling job as well as exhausting and one that requires immense amounts of patience and sanity.

To whine and to accuse the superintendents of using these tests to 'harrass' the teachers, well I say, "You Go Superintendents"!!!!! My kids are part of a public school system that I have found to be very questionable over the years. Teachers molesting/seducing/raping their students, tellling kids to write a paper on who they would kill, teaching the kids to hate this person or that person, teaching kids that sex is ok and if they get pregnant, just go get an abortion, hosting parties with sex, drugs and alcohol and the list goes on.

I have nothing to hide. If the State decided to administer such a test for us daycare providers, I actually, might not agree with it but I would understand that the bottom line would be this: It would be for the safety and the well being of the children, to protect the children and to make sure they are in a safe environment. I wouldn't ask questions, just do what needs to be done and take what may come.

It's for the good of the kids right? It's not about me or the teacher down the road. I guess in a way it could be but ultimately, the kids are the focus. Why must all these adults make it about themselves?
