How many of you out there can relate to my rant on this one? It's a little event that happened to my father a couple of weeks ago. However, it is also an occurrence that takes place where I live almost daily.
Rude people. I did a post similar to this quite a while back actually but it's something that never seems to go away.
My mom and dad had to go to the doctor to have my father's ears checked. Apparently, a week or so before this day, my father went in to have his ears cleaned. He has pretty icky ears, busted an eardrum some years ago and numerous ear infections and such. Anyway, when he went to have his ears cleaned, he could hear absolutely fine. The peculiar thing is is that when he left with clean ears, he is now deaf. Can't hear much of anything. All those years of him telling me to get the dirt out of my ears so I could hear better, well, now I have second thoughts.
Anyway, after this second appointment to find out what went wrong and why he suddenly can't hear (I never did get that answer from my mom, just that he is now deaf), him and my mom were walking through the parking lot towards the right side of an aisle of cars, so close my mom said that any closer and they would've bumped the cars. A car suddenly starts honking at them and shooing them out of the way with her hand. My mom said it was a young girl behind the wheel. Well, what is so disgusting and irritating about what this girl did is that my father uses a walker and can't get around real fast these days, is close to blind in one eye, and what is actually a good thing, he couldn't hear all the ruckous behind him. My mom turned to look at him and then proceeded to give this girl a dirty look and continued to keep the pace in which her and my dad were at. Well, then this girl started yelling out her window for them to get out of the way. Who is so blind and heartless that they would treat an elderly couple so rudely without so much as an inkling of patience for a handicap person? What in the hell is wrong with people these days?
My mom said that there was no way that she would say a word to my father, just let him continue at his pace and she did the same. I told her good for her!!!!!! Had I been there to witness this, I think I may have ended up in jail for spewing obscenities and threatening to kick her butt.
That is one thing that I am so grateful for, my children have the utmost respect for the elderly and others in their path. Kids I see behind the checkout counters are more often than not, rude and their manners are absolutely horrible. Taking phone calls from their friends while they ring me up, practically throwing my merchandise at me when I'm leaving, and there was actually an incident that occured with a cashier that prompted me to seek out the manager and file a complaint. This girl was cussing, gossiping about another cashier, just being relentless and when it came time to give me my change she literally threw it in my hand causing coins to fall all over the floor and checkout lane. I looked back at the customers in line behind me and they looked shocked at the behavior. I don't normally complain unless it's to Patrick or my kids but on this particular day, I had had it. Pat was with me that day and he had no idea that I was on a mission and that I had blown past him towards customer service. He only found out after I left the store and he was waiting in the truck at the door for me. He didn't laugh, he told me "Good for you! That was unacceptable for her to treat you or the woman in front of you like that."
Anyway, rude people just chap my arse! And when they can't have the common decency or the courtesy to allow elderly people some time and space, I have no patience for them but only hope that one day, the same thing occurs when they are old and feeble. I don't wish ill will upon anyone but do know that one day, that could be me, why heckle, taunt, and make fun of another who one day might be me?
