If women can choose to abort a baby, shouldn't they also have the freedom to choose whether or not those babies they give life to are vaccinated with the flu shot...or any other shot for that matter???? Oh wait, abortion is separate isn't it; A special situation. If a baby is actually born then it's society's right to dictate what can and cannot be done with that child. No running on the playground, no chicken finger guns, no tag on the playground....those things are ok to tell those of us who dare to cry foul when the subject is killing an unborn child.
I know, the flu can be deadly...so can walking in the house or getting stung by a bee or bitten by a snake. Perhaps we should crusade to kill all things that can kill us eh? Oh, but that would mean the human race too....scratch that idea. And really, doesn't the flu shot protect against only 3 or so strains of the flu? I've known NUMEROUS people who've gotten that shot and still gotten sicker than dogs with a strain that wasn't included in that shot.
Call my attitude flippant, call it moronic, call it whatever you want but in the end it comes down to complete strangers telling others what they can and cannot do and that people don't have a choice when it comes to their own kids. While I am against abortion, I'm not out there protesting with the rest of them trying to inflict my own personal beliefs down the throats of others. When it's mandated that my kids get the flu shot before they attend school, that is the day that they get pulled out of the school system and finish their education at home.
This woman summed it up the best: "Mother Nature designed our bodies to be able to fight off infections through natural means - you need to be exposed and develop immunity," Majeski said. "We've just gotten a little too overprotective with our children."
Who I am in a nutshell: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." **Ralph Waldo Emerson**
