Are educational professionals really as clueless as this to not KNOW that there would be public outrage over their 8-year old kids watching a movie on diversity in families during school hours? Don't they read the news or ever listen to what the parents have to say?
A tumult in Evesham over video shown to pupils
I sat here on Friday night and watched Trading Spouses with my kids. Something we do every once in awhile. But on this particular episode, there's a lesbian couple who have two kids. They've been together for 20 years. The one who traded places was previously married to a man and now calls traditional married couples idiots...shocker. Been told as much myself for asking questions.
The other spouse that's being traded is a woman who is thee most hateful, discriminating, uneducated person I swear the show could find and of course paints all of us out there as idiots. And really it's too bad. We are not all as bigoted or nasty to the differences in people.
How people live their life is not always something I have to agree with but I am capable of being partial to. But the point is is we sat here as a family and watched this and answered whatever questions the kids had and there were some. And the ewwwww factor reared it's ugly head but it was quickly dispelled through conversation and understanding that people live differently then ourselves but that doesn't make them less human or emotional.
I am not comfortable with the public education system teaching my kids about diversity and I don't think that I'm alone on that one as a parent. People can live how ever they want to. In the end, if there are parents out there or educators out there that are more bigoted or biased than myself towards one side or another, they don't belong in the moral teachings of my kids!
Who I am in a nutshell: "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; to leave the world a little better; whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is the meaning of success." **Ralph Waldo Emerson**
