The last line of this article struck me: "As if any of us could forget."
I have heard people say that our own president plotted 9/11. I have heard people say that Americans did this horrendous act. I have heard people say that those in the towers deserved to die. I have heard some horrible things said about that fateful day that probably changed every single person in this country.
For me personally, I have a tag on my blog that flashes pictures of various things from that day. Planes crashing into the towers, Bin Laden, the President and each time I see those of the planes hitting the towers my stomach lurches and I remember.
9/11 was a very sad day, realizing that our country was under attack. That our own American people were killed by a people who's religion believes that they will be greeted by 72 virgins upon completing their mission of murder.
Flight 93, one of those who was named a hero, was from Minnesota originally. What a courageous group of men who steered that plane away from what could have turned into a hit on the White House. I'm sure there are those out there that wish that the President would've been killed that day. Harsh to say that but so true.
People say that reliving the day of those on Flight 93 is just too early. For myself, I just don't think it's too early. I think that some need a wake up call. I remember thinking the day that this happened that perhaps this tragic thing would bring people together in this country. That we could all work together to fight this but lo and behold, the complete opposite occurred. And it breaks my heart.
Each year on the anniversary of 9/11 we sit down as a family and watch "9/11", the documentary made by the two French brothers who were following a rookie with the NYC Fire Department. Is it hard to do? You bet it is and Patrick and I feel that hole in our stomaches for days after and each year our children ask new questions. One that is always asked though is 'why?' For that, we can only say that those who did this were very evil people and have very little respect for the value of a life.
I give a big thumbs up for movies such as "United 93" to be released in theaters and any other movie that is being made. We have movies like Shindler's list or NUMEROUS war movies depicting the Gulf War, the Civil War, World War II, movies of Slavery and Pearl Harbor. We have NUMEROUS movies depicting many tragedies and inhumane things that have befallen people and this country, ones that make some cry with the memories yet no one has said that we shouldn't show them. Why would people try to stop this one? One that has definately changed this country and it's values and divided us?
People of all ages need to remember the impact of that day I think. Many may not agree with me but if the family members of those on Flight 93 are ready to re-live a horrible day and a horrible loss, then I look at it this way, for those of us on the outside, those of us who didn't know another who died that day, the pain we might feel upon seeing that couldn't be nearly as deep as it would be for those family members, friends, and loved ones.
