Being married to a reporter is usually quite interesting and sometimes even comical. Pat will come home with all sorts of local news and 'gossip' from neighboring towns. These will provide us each evening with hours of conversation, stories that his paper was the first to report on, silly animal stories, or heated city council meetings. On the rare occasion though, he will come home with a story that is so disturbing that it will be the topic of conversation and sleepless nights for days.
Stories such as this one: Forest Lake man charged in assault on teenager Please take a moment to click this link and read as I will be following up with this sick and twisted event along with Patrick.
Being that this type of story really makes my blood boil I have some venting to do here.
Is it me or does this type of headline seem to be becoming a daily thing in most newspapers? Sometimes they are such normal occurences that I would bet that they aren't read nearly as much as they should be. Society has become numb to this sort of thing, some choose to pity the perpetrator and make excuses for their lack of ability to realize what they did. In other words, throwing in their victim cards and encouraging all of us to believe 'temporary insanity' played a role, or that the perp was mentally impaired.
Frankly, I find them to be stupid excuses in most cases while in others they might make some sort of sense. Either way, they are excuses. Many times these ugly people's actions are attributed to 'bad childhoods'. What are the stats out there on the many people who had bad childhoods? My seven brothers and sisters and I endured a pretty grueling childhood but none of us has ever gone off the deep end. There's 8 out of 8 who have learned to handle the cards dealt them and to manage to stay sane. I have a freind who had a really nasty childhood, in fact, many freinds, and none of them have done anything criminal..well, just one however, the victim has conquered and has a great life right now.
I call it laziness, I call it selfish, I call it evil. This man is evil. This mother is not even a mother in my book, and this bar should never have been able to attain a liquor license! I could really go on a rant with this story but will refrain. There are just so many things wrong here that I wouldn't know where to begin anyway.
One of my top ten favorite movies is "Parenthood" with Steve Martain and Keanu Reeves. In that movie there is a line that Reeves says, one in which has stuck with me. "You need a license to own a dog but any butt-reeming a**hole can have a kid". Boy, isn't that the truth.
I must leave it at that as my heart is racing, my mood is foul, and I just would like for people to start being parents and RESPONSIBLE adults. God, if only I could change the world!!!!!
