Is there nothing sacred?

I can't tell you how many times I have asked myself "Is there anything in this world that will not be analyzed, picked to pieces, raked through the coals, or put down?" Honestly, Harry Potter is Fantasy. It is a good read, the movies are entertaining. I just leave it at that and discuss the editing mistakes or how this part was really done bad or compare it to the book. There is nothing more. Movies are for entertainment. That simple in my mind. Perhaps that is too simple.

I am so tired of people over analyzing children and the things that they do. And the things that they suspect the kids will do or learn, or ramming things down their throat. I'm tired of everything that is geared towards children having some hidden inuendo or some shady agenda. Some adults stand around and whine, and complain about this or that, make a spectacle of this or that, it turns into a news story and wham it is just the topic of the week all over. I often wonder who may be more influenced in such circumstances, the adults or the children?

I posted that entry yesterday because I believe that adults tend to think that kids and them are programmed with the same mentality. Heck they wouldn't be if the adults could just grow up and stop making mountains out of ant hills!!! Yes, I am just tired of it.

I read this article, 'A darker magic: 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' and it made me angry. Witches, deceit, violence, in a movie that kids love. Ok, well lets talk about television shows and other so called pg-13 movies on the big screen...sex, sex, and more sex. Without protection I might add. Lies, affairs, decieving parents and doing things behind their backs, drinking, drugs. How about Walt Disney and the hidden sexual inuendos in those movies that most adults really have to look for and that kids simply don't notice!

UNLESS, it is pointed out to the kids. Why would people put that sort of thing in a childrens movie? Your guess is as good as mine but I am not one to make an announcement to my kids that these things are out there. That would be absolutely stupid of me to do. No, they know because they see it on television in the news, in television shows or worse they hear from their friends at school. I have been asked about that specific topic by my kids and tell them that I don't have a clue, I don't care and that it really isn't a huge concern. Basically to ignore it and leave it at that. The more I say, the more curious they become. Maybe I'm blind? Maybe I should pay more attention to Disney movies?

To put so much thought into the reasons behind the 'fantasy' in the Harry Potter movies? I'm sorry but I know fantasy when I see it and I guess that as a parent I should be smart enough and more than capable to differentiate. And my daughter certainly isn't affected by all the wizardry and she reads those books over and over and over!

What about shows such as "Bewitched", " I Dream of Genie"," The Wizard of Oz", "Godzilla", "Planet of the Apes"? Most of which have been remade and completly fantasy. As a little girl I absolutely loved all of these shows! Couldn't wait to watch Tabitha twitch her little nose and make magic happen, or Genie out-wit her master. I am not a witch now, don't practice some mystical religion.

Nor are the majority of the people in this country. Bugs Bunny/Road Runner was labeled violent a few years back. I grew up loving those, I'm the tamest person you could come across and there is a lot of really crazy antics in those cartoons. Never once did I attempt to swing a big boulder to hit another person only to find myself flattened and still alive. Wile E. Coyote, love that character.

People are most certainly entitled to their opinions. But kids and adults as well, absorb things in the manner in which it is presented to them. If I tell my kids they cannot see Harry Potter because it is riddled with evil, more than likely they will find a way to go see it strictly out of curiosity and search for the evil that lay within. If I tell my kids that sure, they can go see the movie, sounds like fun, their view of it is completely opposite.

This is a rant, a peeve I have with this world and what it is doing to the very fiber of innocence in our kids...its ripping it away. Forcing them grow up long before their minds even have an opportunity to learn what it is to make their own choices, to learn, to wonder.

I have a pretty open mind, I am pretty easy going, do tend to get very passionate about topics pertaining to kids and throw my two cents in when I'm about to boil over. What would really be nice if things could be as simple as they are for me. As clear cut. I guess that I am just glad that I am my kids mom. At least I know that when they look at something and question it I am there to answer it for them and explain.

Who knows maybe I'm the naive one. But I will tell you this, my kids are smart, they are aware, they are open minded, they aren't afraid to ask questions and most importantly, they are able to realize that movies are just to cure their boredom or to bring to life the characters in a book. And they are the first ones in this house to predict the ending and laugh at me because I don't like to predict, just be entertained for a couple of hours.

I am in total agreement with you on this one. It's FANTASY! It's entertainment! I'm an adult and I watch the movies AND read the books and my nose isn't twitching either.

LOL...thanks for stopping by again. It's nice to have new company!

I just got back from the movie and it is a great movie. Probably one of the best HP movies. It is scary and I wouldn't take my younger kids but good.

Poo-poo on this man for his negativity!

LOL, yes Richard, you are very correct! But any kid with an imagination these days is considered a danger. Sad isn't it?

I have sat my girls down to watch Lifetime, YES Lifetime movies, where kids are into drugs, raped, or anything that would teach them that the world isn't all that some people like to make it out to be. I want them to know what is out there is why. Not because I want them to go looking for some jerk to rape them. They need to be aware. It's really elementary teaching. Common sense.
And you're right when you say that it's the chairs fault. No one can take responsibility anymore. But don't get me started on that one.
