I have been really trying to avoid this post but can no longer do so. The context of an article I read deeply disturbed me and has had me asking myself how people can be so blind and naive to the words coming out of their mouth? How they can not realize how offensive some of the things they say really are or how disrespectful. It truly saddens me.
Having a brother in the military, a daughter who is chomping at the bit to join as soon as she can, and knowing numerous others who are enlisted, I would give anything for this war to end. But that does not mean that I think it's wrong, just for the record. I don't like to see people die anymore than the next guy but I believe that good things are happening for the Iraqi people but the media just isn't reporting on the positive. That's fine, if I want to hear about all the good that's being done, I simply call my friend whose husband has been there twice, speak with my brother, visit various blogs of soldiers and find all that info.
But this professor, if that is what one would call him has just really upset me. 'Fragging prof' fears he'll be 'terminated' Emergency meeting scheduled tonight on remark soldiers should kill superiors I have seen protestors carrying signs saying this very thing and it is like a knife in the heart. This professor wrote this to a freshman who had 'made an announcement of a campus program last Thursday featuring decorated Iraq war hero Lt. Col. Scott Rutter.':
Daly wrote: "Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors."
Am I nuts or something to see what is wrong with this? Am I wrong because I find this statement offensive and disrespectful to our own men and women who are sacrificing for me, my children, my husband and every American citizen? I guess those who disagree with the war are very passionate about their feelings. What can one do?
It's just sad for me is all. Drudge has a report about how CNN has a black "X" over VP Dick Chaney's face while he is making a public speech. I don't know about others but I was taught that the President of the United States and those who worked closely with him were to be treated with respect. I must be old fashioned or something.
It's really disturbing to see things like this in the news. To see that 'Adults' are doing such childish things and saying such horrible things about people who are just as human as they are. We are all human, black or white, red or green, we are all made of the same thing. Hearts. Where are people's hearts? Where is the compassion and the empathy that I was taught? Apparently I was raised wrong or something because I am not getting this new way of living.
Too much pain for me.

We also agree that no one should advocate such a thing. The service people have enough to deal with without this sort of tripe.
Bon & Mal
I agree, did you see the coverage from the House the other day when the Republican rep read the letter from her Marine constituent. All the Democrats started booing so you couldn't hear her talk. I swear I thought I was watching a Junior High school classroom. No wonder our kids can't act any better.
Kelly, thank you for stopping by. It's good to see your face for a change....lol
I agree with you. A lot of the kids in this country are not getting taught very valuable lessons, just to be bullies and to hurt people no matter what the cost. Makes me sick really.
And Ricky? Don't waste your anger on these mooks! You and all your military brothers and sisters have OODLES of supporters! We are out there very grateful and thankful for all that the military has done and will do for this country and others.
This sort of thing is painful to the core and makes one want to weep but gain strength from it, not hatred. Pity them for they know not what they do. They are children stuck in the bodies of adults.
It's kind of like our retriever. He really wants to believe that he is just this little lap dog puppy who can curl up on our lap only to find that he has angered us with the mere size of his 90 lb. body. heck, he even thinks that he can still walk under our coffee table only to bonk his head. What a dork!!!!
That pricks "acedemic freedom" as he states is a direct result of what our society and ideology has granted him through the sacrifices of the many who chose to lay it on the line to protect this country and make it what it is. FIRE HIS ASS!!, That is freedom of choice and the right of the employer, not the employee. Students should use their freedom of choice to boycott his ass right out of the classroom. Until he walks in the steps of a fighting soldier, he should really pleed the fifth, one of the rights that is once again granted no matter how ignorant the ass is.
Anon, I really agree with what you said in your comment but in the future could you try keep the profanity to a minimum? Sorry, I have the mouth of a sailor when I am upset too and use it in those moments and I do understand your frustration. Trust me, this guy and his ilk have caused much nastiness to come from my mouth and what they say is unforgiveable in my book but as the saying goes, "What Goes around Comes around". They too will one day, hopefully, look at this and wish they had never said it. One thing these sort of people love is to get a rise out of people like myself or you or anyone that their words may affect, that is pathetic but true. Let it roll and watch the circus is what I say. Thanks for stopping, I hope you will return.
Lou...
Look for our current detractors to find their way into history's ash-heap in 20 or so years.
We are right on this issue, current pain and loss respectfully acknowledged.
BTW, I for one, would never swear.
Im a good boy.
Innocently yours...Tom
;^/
LOL, yeah Tom, Whatever!!I've known you for 23 years, wow, that's a really long time. Never thought of it in those terms. And since it shocked my thought right out of my thought process, I will leave it at that.
Fortunately we have more honorable men and women serving, than some of those who are in the supposed news industry.
Hubby and I were just talking last night about what happens when the war does end, how will our troops react upon arriving on American soil again. It has to be very hard for them to do what is their job with such nastiness surrounding them. I just wish sometimes that people would keep their yaps closed and their thoughts to themselves.
We're all free to speak, that has really been pointed out too much in the last few years but how far must people go with that? And why?
I had your old (aol) journal in my favorites, but just can't recall visiting too much and I'm kicking myself.
I hope this professor is fired, he deserves it and then I hope they put his butt on a plane to Iraq and I just DARE him to speak his "opinions" to our soldiers...wonder who they'll pick to shoot.
It's not a nice thought and I shouldn't be thinking it. My husband's over there right now for the 2nd time in 2 yrs. I'm so proud of what he does. Like you I'd love for the war to be over with, but I know what we're doing is the right thing and that so much good is happening that of course the media just couldn't bare to actually report...instead they go for the 20% truth and leave the other 80 % out because we'd NEVER want the American public to actually know all the GOOD that's happening over there.
I've added your journal to my favoites and plan on visiting soon!
God Bless
Christy, I too have forgotten to add your journal to my own links so we can feel bad together. I ache for you having to go through the emotions of being a military wife. You are a strong individual. And to have to sit back here on American soil and witness the nastiness that those on the left have towards the military must be awful.
And don't feel bad about your thoughts on that professor. I can relate. He turned in his resignation though shortly before the meeting...the whimp. Guess if put in the face of danger in Iraq we know that he wouldn't be nearly as tough as he would like his words to portray. Sad really that people can stand around and moan and groan about the troops and what they're doing but don't stop to realize just how dangerous their mission is. I wouldn't want them defending the honor or the glory of myself or America as a whole. they simply have no heart! No compassion! No understanding! No kajones!
