In the midst of all the political battling going on in the country, the war, death, the shooting at Red Lake...my mind has been a muddled mess. 'Befuddled' best describes me these days...well, maybe most days. I guess I couldn't have picked a more appropriate name.
Yes, I admit that I am naive, an airhead and often times my honesty gets me into trouble. I have been known to allow people to walk all over me because I was too afraid to say what was really on my mind....I am a chicken so shoot me. Well, I used to be, well, still kinda am.
I'm tired of all the political bashing, tired of all the hatred and tired of trying to make sense of it all. I have been attempting to make sense of it only to end up more frustrated.
In the midst of all this over the last few weeks, there has been a world outside my door that I have been missing out on. It hit me yesterday when I was out on my deck having a smoke and noticed the robins pecking around the yard.
Today, well, today it was raining, cold, and just one crappy day. It started with the entry that I posted about the Devil's Chair. That set the mood. It was like the icing on the cake to the rest of my frustration. Or so I thought.
Our son came home from kindergarten this afternoon with a note on a peice of green paper. He handed it to me even before he had his back-pack off....'Here mom, we HAVE to give this to you AS SOON as we get home!' He is so adorable, but anyway, this note was sent home to inform us that there was an 'abduction attempt' about 15 miles from our home in another school district. We were told to please reinforce everything about strangers, what to do, etc. So I did that over lunch to him and his little classmate. I run a daycare, and while I was doing all of this I had two very crabby little wee ones to add to my stress.
Ok, well, after lunch, I usually go take a catnap while my husband takes care of the older ones. He's so awsome. Well, he woke me up and said there's something going on at the Middle School. Our 13-year old daughter attends this school so I was up and out of that nap in seconds. Rude awakening to say the least. Well, it turnsout that the school was in 'lock-down'. They were locked inside the school because a meth-maniac was on the loose around the school. Our 15-year old daughter, she filled us in on things. Cops everywhere, this man is considered dangerous obviously, cops had pulled him over, he fled, they checked his home and found all the equiptment for the making of meth....as a mom, my mind was almost on overload. Our 13-year old called us as she didn't have a clue why she couldn't leave school but she was ok, Thank God. She arrived home safely 3 hours late. I don't know what the outcome was of the situation just thankful that my daughter is ok and all four of my kids are safe!
Well if that wasn't enough, I came in from saying good bye to my final daycare parent and my hubby had a horrendous look on his face. I said, "Now what?" Through clenched teeth he said,"Are you aware that your son bit somebody on the bus yesterday?" Well, no, I wasn't aware that he bit someone...a kid confess to getting into trouble? I've not met one yet. His sister indulged my husband. Anyway, apparently he bit this boy that bullies him. This bully bit my son's friend and my son got angry and bit him back. I wanted to say, good for you because this kid, well, I won't say what I really think as boys can be boys.
Of course my son was reprimanded not only by both myself and my husband, also the bus driver. I had asked if 'bully-boy' got in trouble and the answer was NO! That angered me but my husband pointed out that our son learned a lesson. This is very true. And not only did he get reprimanded but I suddenly remembered all those times my husband told our daughters to punch another girl in the nose for tripping them, punching them etc. and I would step in and say, "Absolutely not because the one who retaliates is the one who usually gets caught!" Point proven.
You know those moments where you have had so much served up to you in a day that you just want to laugh. Well, that moment came about 2 seconds ago. In light of this glorious day, I have learned some very valuable things. Beauty is precious. As one commentor pointed out, it doesn't last forever. Taking it for granted or simply forgetting that it's there because you are so used to being around it, well, thats a crime...a crime of ignorance. My husband and my children are my most precious gifts. I hold them nearest my heart because they make my heart beat, they bring smiles to my face on a day like today.
In the end, I am still just as confused about the hatred, just as frustrated about the world, just as angry about the rock formation. To be able to wake up in the morning to crabby kids, a crabby husband, a crabby me, well, I am just thankful to have each day and people in this crazy blogoshpere who take time out of their lives to read my ramblings! Thanks to all of you!!!!!! :)
UPDATE: Middle School Lockdown-
We received a letter from the middle school regarding the meth maniac(mm).
"Our local police had pulled over a driver of a motor vehicle who had been driving erratically. The driver crashed his vehicle during the pursit and indicators of a portable meth lab were present. The Driver fled on foot and headed toward our direction". (the school)
A substitute teacher was asked by the principal to stand by the rear door to the school of the sixth grade wing. "Within minutes of standing there, the suspect was at that door attempting to enter our building. "
According to our daughter, the mm claimed to this teacher that he was there to pick up his child, that they had an appointment. He was asked for ID but did not have it and took off. He apparently attempted to try again banging on the door to get inside the school. Thank God for the bravery of the substitue teacher and the locked doors.
Also according to our daughter, some of her friends parents are on the police force and it was said that he may have been armed with a gun.
Not only does this creep me out but it makes my stomach turn. To think what could have happened had it not been for the quick response from the police to the school district, the actions of this substitute, and the safety they provided to our children.....
